A new ingredient of the Care Specialties Business Unit adjusts the strength of a deo to the body's perspiration

No need to worry if you break out into a sweat: TEGO® Cosmo P813 by Care Specialties makes intelligent on-demand deodorants possible.

There'll soon be a pleasant solution to an unpleasant problem - a deodorant that works harder the more you need it. The key to this innovative solution is Care Specialties' unique new antibacterial active ingredient TEGO^® Cosmo P813. The Business Unit first launched this innovative product in November 2004 at the International Federation of Societies of Cosmetics Chemists (IFSCC) trade show in Orlando, Florida, U.S.A. After receiving positive feedback from the professional community, several well-known cosmetics manufacturers are now running formulation and other tests. It will be one to two years before the first products containing this ingredient hit the market.

The secret behind TEGO^® Cosmo P813 is polyglyceryl-3 caprylate, a plant-based antibacterial substance. When used in deodorants, this ingredient provides on-demand effectiveness for at least twenty-four hours. Fresh perspiration begins to produce an odor only if natural bacteria in a damp environment on the skin multiply unchecked. These bacteria produce enzymes that break down perspiration, thereby releasing unpleasant-smelling decomposition products.

The same enzymes break down the active ingredient in TEGO^® Cosmo P813 to produce caprylic acid. Caprylic acid is around 100 times more active than the original substance and immediately reduces bacteria to normal levels to fight odor. Thanks to this effect, the efficiency of the deodorant actually increases as perspiration and bacteria build-up increase.

In addition to providing protection on demand, TEGO^® Cosmo P813 is gentle to the skin and has a long-lasting effect. In contrast to many competing products, it has the added advantage of being biodegradable. This active ingredient by Care Specialties works well with anti-perspirants, which cosmetics manufacturers add to reduce perspiration, and can therefore easily be added to existing deodorant products.
