A shining example thanks to PLEXIGLAS®: "Living Bridge" receives
architecture prize

62 light cubes made from Degussa's PLEXIGLAS® illuminate the new "Living Bridge" in the "Medienhafen" in Düsseldorf. The versatile product strengths of PLEXIGLAS® GS create for surprising lighting effects on the 150 meter long pedestrian and cycle path bridge located in this architecturally outstanding office district. The jury of the RENAULT Traffic Design Award 2005 has awarded the bridge the "Communities Special Prize", citing: "modern traffic architecture creates a new balance between mobility and quality of life".

PLEXIGLAS® GS White 072 meets designers' requirements
The project was executed by Lichtwerk GmbH, a company based in Königsberg in Bavaria. Lichtwerk's designers used 120 square meters of PLEXIGLAS^® GS White 072 in the construction of the bridge. As a result, the construction literally provides a shining example of the capabilities of this material: White 072 is a type of PLEXIGLAS^® specially designed to meet the requirements of lighting fixture manufacturers and combines a good level of light distribution with an optimal capacity for translucence. This grade of PLEXIGLAS^® GS White 072 turns the "Living Bridge" into an architectural attraction that is eye-catching both during the day and especially during the night.

Apart from this, PLEXIGLAS^® GS impresses with its unique weather-resistance, which means that the aesthetic quality of the construction is ensured for many years to come. The material is shatterproof as well as UV-stable. However, the planners also made an additional demand on the material: they wanted the components to be able to fit together easily and almost "invisibly". This problem was also solved with the help of ACRIFIX^®. The PLEXIGLAS^® glue allows the plates to be fitted together in a "non-detachable" and homogeneous manner.
