Environmental Protection
Investment in end-of-pipe technologies were unchanged at EUR 29 million.
Investments in integrated work protection fell by 14%, taking the figure from EUR 22 million in 2005 to EUR 19 million in 2006. Spending on production-integrated techniques is a measure of the extent to which production-integrated techniques are able to replace downstream end-of-pipe technologies. We therefore invested a total of EUR 48 million in protective measures and environmental protection in 2006.
Operating expenses for environmental protection (EUR 223 million) were 3 percent lower than in 2005 (EUR 231 million). The decline in both operating expenses and capital expenditures for environmental protection was mainly due to portfolio adjustments in 2006. More
