Specific ESHQ goals to 2014, reference base 2004

To ensure a continuous improvement in its ESHQ performance, Degussa has set ambitious Group-wide targets, which serve as a guide for sustainable production. To supplement these general goals, in fall 2005 the Board of Management set specific targets for reducing key ESHQ parameters over a ten-year period (2004-2014). Progress towards the attainment of these targets is measureable and thus transparent.

Degussa is making good progress towards meeting the long-term targets set for 2014. Based on the data for 2004 and taking into account the increase in output, the continuing operations reduced emissions of greenhouse gases and water consumption by 7 percent in 2005 and 2006, while production waste was cut by 4 percent.

The number of accidents per million working hours declined from 3.8 to 2.2 in the same period.

  • Occupational safety: Reduce accident frequency to 1.5 accidents per 1 million working hours
  • Greenhouse gases: Reduce energy-specific emissions by 20 percent
  • Water: Reduce specific consumption by 20 percent
  • Waste: Reduce volume of production waste by 20 percent
